You had an excellent run of years as manager of the Tigers. You might not have had the success or adulation of media and fans like Sparky Anderson did, but you were a solid manager in my book. Ernie died yesterday due to complications from cancer. Detroiters knew this day was coming; he had said farewell to the city and the fans last fall, after doctors discovered terminal cancer in his bile duct. We didn't think he'd live to see the new year, so it was amazing that he lived long enough to see the start of this season ( Read more... )
